Feeling Dismissed? Your Gut Health Could Be the Answer

Woman standing alone at the beach.
Have you ever been dismissed when explaining that you don’t feel like yourself – constantly bloated, exhausted, gassy, experiencing brain fog, and having bathroom issues? Have you been told to live with it, that nothing is wrong, or made to feel like it’s all in your mind? Many women think that their symptoms are just a part of aging. But symptoms like bloating, indigestion, and brain fog can seriously impact your ambitious goals. Being dismissed when you feel unwell is frustrating, especially when your drive as an ambitious woman is affected. These symptoms you’re experiencing can be related to your overall gut health.

The connection between your symptoms and gut health

Digestive Issues:

Symptoms like bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and acid reflux can reflect an imbalance in your gut microbiome. These issues can stem from various factors, including an imbalance in gut bacteria (dysbiosis), food intolerances, or chronic conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Fatigue:

An unhealthy gut can impair your body’s ability to absorb essential nutrients, leading to deficiencies that cause fatigue. Moreover, gut imbalances can affect your sleep patterns, making it harder to get restful sleep, thus perpetuating the cycle of exhaustion.

Skin Issues:

Conditions like acne, eczema, and rosacea can be linked to gut health. An imbalanced gut can lead to systemic inflammation, which can manifest in the skin, our body’s largest organ.

Mood Swings:

Since a significant portion of serotonin (a key neurotransmitter that regulates mood) production occurs in the gut, any disruption can affect your mental health. Women with gut issues often report feeling anxious, depressed, or experiencing mood swings.

Weight Fluctuations:

Whether unexplained weight gain or loss, your gut health plays a crucial role in metabolism and energy regulation. An imbalanced gut can disrupt your body’s ability to manage weight effectively.

What does working on gut health look like for my clients?

When I work with my clients, we use the 5R protocol to help improve their symptoms and gut health.

The 5R protocol stands for:
  • Remove: We eliminate certain foods and microbes that might trigger your symptoms and inflammation. This step may involve an elimination diet to identify food sensitivities and remove irritants like sugar and processed foods. Targeted supplements might also be used temporarily to remove harmful microbes.
  • Replace: We add digestive enzymes to help with digestion.
  • Repair: We introduce supplements to help heal the gut lining.
  • Reinoculate: We add probiotics and prebiotics to support a healthy gut microbiome.
  • Relax: We incorporate supplements or lifestyle strategies to promote relaxation.
Not every client will need to go through every step of the 5R protocol. Working with a trained health practitioner to help provide guidance is essential.
There is hope! The root cause of many symptoms or issues lies in your gut health. Focusing on your gut health can help lessen bloating, improve energy and brain fog, and say goodbye to indigestion. Whether it’s an imbalance in microbes, a lack of variety of good microbes, or an overgrowth of harmful microbes, my tools of diet, supplements, and lifestyle changes can optimize your gut health. Let’s get you back to feeling your best, so you conquer your ambitious goals. Click here to book a call!
